10 Things You Need to Know before Moving to the Philippines

FEATURED
Are you thinking of retiring to the Philippines? I moved to this group of 7,107 islands with my beautiful Filipina wife over nine years ago. Aside from getting used to men peeing in public in broad daylight, there are other issues to deal with in this Southeast Asian “paradise.” Here’s my list of 10 Things You Need to Know before Moving to the Philippines. Filipina Relative is a Scammer

Filipina Relative is a Scammer

FEATURED
"Filipina Relative is a Scammer" is the topic for today's post.  One of my long-time supporters and personal friend recently asked my asawa and I for some assistance. Seems like my comrade's older brother in the States was looking to communicate with a Filipina.  My colleague was wondering if my spouse had any female relatives his brother could chat with. (more…)

I Join the Guimaras SWAT Team at Manggahan

FEATURED
Decades ago I was in the United States Air Force military police. Maybe that's why I always make it a point to be sociable to peace officers no matter where I'm at but especially in the Philippines. I've met quite a few friendly police men and security guards in nearby Iloilo on Panay Island and on our own island province. So I guess it shouldn't come as a complete shock to my readers when I post a title such as the one above: "I Join the Guimaras SWAT Team at Manggahan." (more…)

The Latest Update: Building Our New Home in the Philippines

FEATURED
Here's the latest update on building our new home in the Philippines. I've included some new photos to go along with this post and have added some additional information regarding our recent property dispute.  We're currently starting on Week 14 of this project. Prior to the start of construction, my brother-in-law Joery and his crew manufactured a new nipa hut on our nearly 13,000 square meter lots located on the mango island province of Guimaras. The nipa hut will serve as the new digs for my 84-year-old father-in-law who is afflicted with Alzheimer's Disease. (more…)

Celebrity status in the Philippines is a phenomenon many foreigners will encounter in the archipelago. Some expats, like Tom Ramberg over in Gen San, is often the recipient of wolf whistles from appreciative Filipinas whenever he steps out in public.  I've been chased and screamed at by pretty pinays as I sat in the rear of a jeepney or tricycle in Guimaras, my island province home. Every time this event occurs I check my barn door to make sure it's closed. It always is so I can only assume that the young ladies were either stoned on shabu or flirtatious Filipinas from the local KTV bars. (more…)
NAIA Terminal 3 on the Cheap, Cheap, Cheap

NAIA Terminal 3 on the Cheap, Cheap, Cheap

THE ROOSTER CROWS AT 4AM!
I didn't want to spend a lot of money  when I left the Philippines to visit my Dad back in the States. NAIA Terminal 3 on the cheap. That was my plan. And I executed it fairly well, I thought. No hotel bill. I spent the night at Terminal 3. No taxis. I used the free shuttle service to get from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1, where my Korean Air flight would depart from. And I discovered a 7 Eleven store which had extremely reasonable prices for an airport venue. (more…)

Outtakes at Outpatient Services at Guimaras Provincial Hospital

THE ROOSTER CROWS AT 4AM!
While waiting at the Guimaras Provincial Hospital for over four hours last week, I had plenty of time to take some candid shots with my Samsung Galaxy Tablet and include these pictures in my outtakes at outpatient services. Even though I've been in the Philippines for over five years now, I still have a problem waiting for any long period of time. And to me, sticking around over four hours to see a doctor fits that category. But since the visit was free, I didn't complain that much until the last hour. (more…)

Why Karen Carpenter Songs Should be Banned from Karaoke Bars in the Philippines

THE ROOSTER CROWS AT 4AM!
Call it "writer's block," call it old age, call it what you want. But occasionally I draw a blank when it comes to posting new articles for this website, "Philippines Plus." Listen, I've started three posts already this morning on my Word Press platform and I've sent them all to the trash. "Justified" comes on in one hour and I'm stymied. So don't be surprised by the title of this particular offering: "Why Karen Carpenter Songs Should be Banned from Karaoke Bars in the Philippines."  photo source:fanpop.com (more…)

Sexy Filipinas and Daring Dancers at Manggahan

THE ROOSTER CROWS AT 4AM!
Sometimes it's tough being an American expat in the Philippines. I'm married to a lovely, loving, loyal Filipina wife and surrounded by some of the most beautiful exotic women  and sexy girls on the face of this whirling globe we call Earth. I'm treated like a celebrity and have absolutely no household chores. We have a maid now. While I'm not living in paradise, I'm not too far from it. We even have less brownouts since moving back to Guimaras, our home province, last October, than we ever had before. What more could I guy want, other than a COLD bottle of San Miguel Pale Pilsen.     (more…)
