I’m an American expat in the Philippines that is adjusting more and more every day to Filipino Time. So if this post regarding 2012 doesn’t get posted until sometime later in this month or even next, I’m really not too concerned. I don’t have to worry about the commute to work on Interstate 55 between Auburn, Illinois and Springfield, Illinois where I worked at AT&T for almost 30 years. I’m not in a hurry anymore. Here’s a review of some of my favorite photos from our adventures in 2012.
Mel-O-Cream Donuts, based in Springfield, Illinois, and founded in 1932, are the best tasting donuts I have ever devoured in my 59 years on this planet. These tasty treats were enjoyed by my former co-workers and myself back at AT&T where I retired after almost 30 years before moving to the Philippines. One of the comforts of home that I miss is that there are no Mel-O-Cream donuts to be found in the Philippines. The company website lists their official name as Mel-O-Cream International, Inc., but as far as I can determine, their delectable donuts can only be found in the Midwest. Let me nit pick for a moment. While I have just related my devotion for these donuts please don't give me false hope, O Mel-O-Cream, and state you are an international company when you only distribute your goodies in America's midsection. Please don't tease me like that when I have such a longing for your strawberry jam-filled round delights slathered with white frosted icing. (Photo from Flickr.)
