Visiting U.S. Friends in RC Cola Country Cebu

Visiting U.S. Friends in RC Cola Country Cebu

FEATURED
I was quite surprised to see such a large presence for RC, Royal Crown Cola, when we were visiting U.S. friends in Cebu recently. Coke products and Coke-sponsored signs for local businesses is the norm in nearby Iloilo and Guimaras, the island province we call home.  When I saw so many local sari sari stores advertising the popular soft drinks that I used to consume back in Central Illinois, a wave of nostalgia passed over me. THE ROOSTER CROWS AT 4AM!
Guimaras power scheduled to be restored this Saturday? 8:20 am this past Friday our scheduled rotational brownout arrived. I had already tipped off my asawa of my intention to visit our local power provider when the next outage darkened our door. I traded my standard issue expat uniform, tank top, cargo shorts and slippers for a t-shirt with sleeves and my new Jag jeans. This was a formal visit to our island province's utility company. American Expats Visit “The Bistro” in Buenavista

FEATURED, THE ROOSTER CROWS AT 4AM!
I was posted at Parola Dock in Iloilo City waiting for  The Tom Cat, my American expat friend from Guimaras, and his main squeeze, LenLen. We were on a sojourn to  Buenavista, a town located at the northern tip of Guimaras Island, to visit the VeneZia Bistro, a restaurant/bar operated by our crusty British colleague, Keith.  Sporadic showers slapped me in the face as I dove for cover underneath a battered, corrugated metal roof that looked like it  had gone 12 rounds with Brock Lesnar and lost.   (more…)

Since it deals with business opportunities in the Philippines, I thought it would be helpful to reprint them as a post. Tom has some good advice that he shares. Here are their emails  that I'm posting with their permission, and thanks to both of them: (more…)
