We’ve recently hired a new domestic helper for our household in Guimaras. The crusty old expat, yours truly, issued an “executive order” which proclaimed a new part-time helper was needed to augment our current staff. My “executive order” was not held up in any federal court.
My lovely asawa and I recently witnessed a St. Valentine’s Day Massacre at the Guimaras Mountain Resort. OK, I, confess. Maybe only a few turkeys and chickens were actually sacrificed for the buffet dinner. However, Valentine’s Day, 1929, in Chicago, produced a very “Bloody Valentine.” Seven members of “Bugs” Moran’s gang were gunned down. The slaughter was attributed to rival gangster Al “Scarface” Capone.
My friends in the United States recently finished celebrating Labor Day. I used to look forward to the three day holiday when I worked at AT&T. Now, I enjoy unlimited 3-day weekends in the Philippines. In fact, every day is now a holiday for this crusty old American expat.
What would I have done differently after 6 yrs. in the Philippines?
The Philippines is an archipelago comprised of 7,107 islands. Traveling by banca boat (see following photo) is an unrivaled means of checking out some of the islets and enclaves which is something my asawa and her relatives, the island hoppers of Guimaras, did one recent Sunday.
Pretty pinays roam Raymen Resort in Guimaras, the island province we call home. What more could a crusty old expat who has lived in the Philippines almost six years desire? A beautiful asawa, a sunny day on the beach, a cold bottle of San Miguel Pale Pilsen and not a care in the world. Sure, I got a sunburn as I walked along the white sandy shores but it was my desire, as CEO of Philippines Plus, to get as many photos of lovely ladies as possible. It’s a sacrifice I make for my faithful readers.
Decades ago I was in the United States Air Force military police. Maybe that’s why I always make it a point to be sociable to peace officers no matter where I’m at but especially in the Philippines. I’ve met quite a few friendly police men and security guards in nearby Iloilo on Panay Island and on our own island province. So I guess it shouldn’t come as a complete shock to my readers when I post a title such as the one above: “I Join the Guimaras SWAT Team at Manggahan.”
