Clash of the Filipina Maids

Clash of the Filipina Maids

FEATURED
We've recently hired a new domestic helper for our household in Guimaras. The crusty old expat, yours truly, issued an "executive order" which proclaimed a new part-time helper was needed to augment our current staff. My “executive order” was not held up in any federal court. (more…)

St. Valentine’s Day Massacre: Guimaras Mountain Resort

FEATURED
My lovely asawa and I recently witnessed a St. Valentine's Day Massacre at the Guimaras Mountain Resort. OK, I, confess. Maybe only a few turkeys and chickens were actually sacrificed for the buffet dinner. However, Valentine's Day, 1929,  in Chicago, produced a very "Bloody Valentine." Seven members of “Bugs” Moran's gang were gunned down. The slaughter was attributed to rival gangster Al "Scarface" Capone. (more…)
The Island Hoppers of Guimaras

The Island Hoppers of Guimaras

FEATURED
The Philippines is an archipelago comprised of 7,107 islands. Traveling by banca boat (see following photo) is an unrivaled means of checking out some of the islets and enclaves which is something my asawa and her relatives, the island hoppers of Guimaras, did one recent Sunday.  (more…)

Manggahan 2015:Mango Mascots and Muslim Folk Dancers

I confess. I did have one bottle of San Miguel Pale Pilsen before I took the following picture.  It was so hot that the roosters were using oven mitts to pick up worms from the ground. I was hot and sweaty and sweltering in the mid-morning sun. Yes, dear reader, I quaffed another early beer but please note that this is a rare exception for me and one usually only practiced when our mango festival in Guimaras makes it's annual appearance. Of course, if certain Floridians are in town, I have been known to quench my thirst with an adult beverage at an earlier hour also. By the way, if anyone would care to share, what time do you personally think is a reasonable time to have your first beer? There's no right or wrong answer in my books, but I'm curious as to what time your "happy hour" mi
Pretty Pinays Roam Raymen Resort in Guimaras

Pretty Pinays Roam Raymen Resort in Guimaras

FEATURED
Pretty pinays roam Raymen Resort in Guimaras, the island province we call home. What more could a crusty old expat who has lived in the Philippines almost six years desire? A beautiful asawa, a sunny day on the beach, a cold bottle of San Miguel Pale Pilsen and not a care in the world. Sure, I got a sunburn as I walked along the white sandy shores but it was my desire, as CEO of Philippines Plus, to get as many photos of lovely ladies as possible. It's a sacrifice I make for my faithful readers. (more…)
I Join the Guimaras SWAT Team at Manggahan

I Join the Guimaras SWAT Team at Manggahan

FEATURED
Decades ago I was in the United States Air Force military police. Maybe that's why I always make it a point to be sociable to peace officers no matter where I'm at but especially in the Philippines. I've met quite a few friendly police men and security guards in nearby Iloilo on Panay Island and on our own island province. So I guess it shouldn't come as a complete shock to my readers when I post a title such as the one above: "I Join the Guimaras SWAT Team at Manggahan." (more…)

The “Ugly American” Makes an Appearance at New Construction Site

FEATURED
My asawa has borne the brunt of the stress associated with the building of our new home in the Philippines. My spouse handles the ordering of materials and takes care of the payroll and makes sure all of our workers have an ample snack supply on hand for their daily merienda. Regular readers know that I don't do much of anything and excel in that function. But the other day, I had gotten fed up with the excuses of our roofers, and thus the "ugly american" found it necessary to make an appearance at our new construction site. (more…)
Philippine Government to Execute All Fixers

Philippine Government to Execute All Fixers

FEATURED
Both the Senate and House chambers of the Philippines on April 1st, 2015,  have unilaterally passed Republic Act 10989 which will allow the Philippine government to execute all fixers. Anyone found guilty of taking bribes or payments to "facilitate" or "fix" government transactions,  such as business permits,  for economic and other gains will be executed within six months upon their conviction with no appeals allowed.  (more…)
