Cozy & Comfortable: Stone House Hotel Pasay

Cozy & Comfortable: Stone House Hotel Pasay

FEATURED
We recently made a trip to Metro Manila. We stayed for five nights at the cozy and comfortable Stone House Hotel Pasay. Only three kilometers from the SM Mall of Asia, Stone House, doesn't offer five-star accommodations. But it does give the budget-conscious traveler great budget options for staying in Manila. (more…)
Survey on New Property Could Spark Turf War

Survey on New Property Could Spark Turf War

FEATURED, THE ROOSTER CROWS AT 4AM!
A recent new survey on our Guimaras property could spark a turf war. My asawa and I are set to start building our new domicile on the mango island province this November and had hired a survey firm from nearby Iloilo City to do provide us with a sketch plan. We could start working on our final design plans that we could submit to Peter, a local architect and trusted relative, who could transform our rough sketches into a blueprint our construction crew could work with.   My asawa chats with a neighbor who had dropped by to check out all the activity   (more…)

Expat King in the Philippines

FEATURED
I think I'm an expat king in the Philippines. I submit the following photograph as proof. As I was complaining about a painful ingrown big toe nail my asawa was working on, I turned on the camera of my new Samsung Galaxy Tab 3. My spouse was not pleased with the picture and asked me to delete it. I did. But not before transferring it to my Picasa 3 albums which took me over a day to figure out.  After attempting to download the Samsung Kies Program, which is not at all user friendly, I still couldn't figure out how to simply transfer any pictures I had taken. Finally, after wrestling with Kies, I resorted to downloading the instruction manual for my new Galaxy tablet. That didn't work. Did a Google search on how to transfer pictures...

Another Hot Laundry Lady Replaced

FEATURED, LIZARD POOP! ADVENTURES IN ILOILO
Laundry? I've washed my hands of the whole mess. We already replaced one hot laundry lady  last September. This March we were using a drop off laundry located in our subdivision. No more. After some articles of clothes went missing, I made an executive decision. Find a new laundry lady. Preferably one that did not spit like our first one did.  (And if you think this pretty pinay was our former laundry lady, you need to take another hit of what you were smoking.) (more…)
Aswang Attacks Cop Outside Our Iloilo Subdivision!

Aswang Attacks Cop Outside Our Iloilo Subdivision!

FEATURED
Heard my asawa's manicurist outside my window the other afternoon. She stopped by to give my wife the latest news in our subdivision. She  has access to the lastest breaking chiz miz, gossip, available as she makes her rounds. When my wife came inside to inform me that "Madge" (not her real name) told her that an aswang, a Filipino witch, attacked a barangay police officer right outside our subdivision, I took notice. It’s Laundry Day! Our Hot New Laundry Lady Has Arrived!

It’s Laundry Day! Our Hot New Laundry Lady Has Arrived!

FEATURED, LIZARD POOP! ADVENTURES IN ILOILO
My asawa has hired someone to wash our clothes on laundry day. She's a stunner and she's hot! She arrived at 11 am this past Wednesday with her classmate friend, "Millie", who is my wife's manicurist/pedicurist. I like "Millie." She only charges 35 pesos (80 cents in USD) each for a manicure or pedicure. My wife was being charged an outrageous 40 pesos in Guimaras.  My obviously generous and rich spouse gives her a 100 peso bill (2.30 USD) each time she has a manicure and pedicure done and tells her to keep the change. That's a hefty 30 peso tip, but I keep my mouth shut. After all, she has managed to find a laundry lady for us which means my asawa will not have to hand wash our clothes any more herself.  That means she will be in a better ...
My Asawa Hires Help for Laundry Day: She’s A Stunner!

My Asawa Hires Help for Laundry Day: She’s A Stunner!

FEATURED, LIZARD POOP! ADVENTURES IN ILOILO
Her name is "Shine." She's our new laundry lady. I didn't hire her. My asawa did. She came recommended by my spouse's manicurist. Although, readers like Lance the Canadian and Gary Wigle have suggested that we employ cute young Filipinas, advice from such sages as Tom Ramberg and Scott,  who suggested that the hiring of "homely"  employees would be more beneficial to my future well being, would probably be heeded. Well, all I can tell say is that our new helper on laundry day is a "stunner." She's hot! (more…)
More Adventures at Philippines Resort Cabaling Beach

More Adventures at Philippines Resort Cabaling Beach

FEATURED, THE ROOSTER CROWS AT 4AM!
Boracay Philippines. Puerto Galera. Guimaras. Just some of the better known Philippines resorts. Visited Cabaling Beach this past Sunday to celebrate the birthdays of my asawa, now 47, her sister Alida, 33, and Joery, her husband, 39. The sky was overcast most of the day, but our nieces and nephews were enjoying swimming and playing on the beach as I waited for the rest of the party to return from visiting my wife's traveling manicurist who lived nearby. Had eaten a breakfast of spaghetti and fried chicken at our rented nipa hut on the edge of a jungle, but was getting hungry for some of those butterfly pork chops I had purchased at SM City Supermarket in Iloilo. Plus, Cousin Emma and her crew were bringing the San Miguel beverages,  but they hadn't arrived yet.  (mor...
A Philippines Resort Called Cabaling Beach

A Philippines Resort Called Cabaling Beach

FEATURED, THE ROOSTER CROWS AT 4AM!
Recently celebrated a trio of birthdays at a Philippines resort about a 30-minute ride from our home in Guimaras, the Cabaling Beach, a tropical beach located next to the Cabaling Resort in Espinosa, Jordan municipality. Was quite a bumpy ride via the multicab we hired from our neighbor at the princely sum of P900 (negotiated down from the original price of P1,000, 23 US Dollars) I wondered why the fare was so high since we had hired the same vehicle before to go to Raymen, another Philippines beach, for P700,  which was about the same distance. "Bad roads" was stated as the reason for the more expensive fee, and "bad roads" are as common as 12 kids in a family in this predominantly Catholic nation.  (more…)
