Crusty Old Expat. The Retired Old Fart in the Philippines. Both of those monikers, and others, apply to me. Regular readers of Philippines Plus might have noticed that comments have been closed for recent posts. I have a shot of myself relaxing in Boracay at the end of each post stating that.
Finally, I humbly present my “Last Manila Crooked Cabbie Saga.” With apologies to Master Todd, the forthcoming spiel occurred before the former Marine’s now-famous “50 pesos plus fare” lesson.
An unfortunate incident occurred during our luxury 2go cruise from Manila to Iloilo. In a previous post, I related the tragic event in which a man jumped from our ship. At this time, the man’s body has not been found.
During a recent trip to Pasay City, my asawa and I might have discovered Manila’s last honest cab driver. At the Stone House Hotel, our base of operations, we used taxis to travel to nearby Mall of Asia, MOA. Not one single driver would go on meter, aside from one honest soul on our last trip to MOA.
We recently made a trip to Metro Manila. We stayed for five nights at the cozy and comfortable Stone House Hotel Pasay. Only three kilometers from the SM Mall of Asia, Stone House, doesn’t offer five-star accommodations. But it does give the budget-conscious traveler great budget options for staying in Manila.
Niece Shaina and nephew Sharwen are now enrolled in public school in mango land, Guimaras, my asawa's home province. We plan to follow them next month. Because the kids had a new grading period start in Iloilo, my asawa and I felt it would be a good time to bring them back to their old stomping grounds and stay at "The Compound" until we arrived.
