The SM City North EDSA Expat Experience

The SM City North EDSA Expat Experience

FEATURED
"SM City North EDSA Expat Experience" relates our latest shopping adventure in the Philippines.  It was a chaotic shopping trip. I was almost convinced Filipinos in Manila had started their Christmas shopping early. After all, the Philippines has the longest Christmas season in the world and begins September 1st. (more…)

I confess. I did have one bottle of San Miguel Pale Pilsen before I took the following picture.  It was so hot that the roosters were using oven mitts to pick up worms from the ground. I was hot and sweaty and sweltering in the mid-morning sun. Yes, dear reader, I quaffed another early beer but please note that this is a rare exception for me and one usually only practiced when our mango festival in Guimaras makes it's annual appearance. Of course, if certain Floridians are in town, I have been known to quench my thirst with an adult beverage at an earlier hour also. By the way, if anyone would care to share, what time do you personally think is a reasonable time to have your first beer? There's no right or wrong answer in my books, but I'm curious as to what time your "happy hour" mi

I Join the Guimaras SWAT Team at Manggahan

FEATURED
Decades ago I was in the United States Air Force military police. Maybe that's why I always make it a point to be sociable to peace officers no matter where I'm at but especially in the Philippines. I've met quite a few friendly police men and security guards in nearby Iloilo on Panay Island and on our own island province. So I guess it shouldn't come as a complete shock to my readers when I post a title such as the one above: "I Join the Guimaras SWAT Team at Manggahan." (more…)

I don't like people that butt in line. Regular readers of "Philippines Plus" might recall past rants involving my issues with Filipinos,  well-known for "Filipino Time," who are nonetheless in a hurry and push ahead of others in a queue. I've been living in the Philippines for close to six years now, and while the vast majority of Pinoys and Pinays are polite, respectful and friendly, there are those that believe it is alright to practice "line jumping." So when  a middle-aged Filipina butted in front of two senior ladies the other day at Robinsons Supermarket Package Counter, this incident sparked the "Americanization" of the two Lola's (Grandmothers.) A Few Beers. One Babe. And Guimaras.

Cute Filipinas, FEATURED, THE ROOSTER CROWS AT 4AM!
Beers.  A babe. And Guimaras.  The only element in abundance during my recent visit to the mango province with The Tom Cat a week ago last Friday was beer. And rain. A deluge that dogged us all day. But my American expat friend and I dodged our usual dives and headed for a posh hotel at the New Site in San Miguel, Zemkamps Chalet, after a lunch at our favorite eatery, Lisa's Talabahan. The Tom Cat and LenLen at Lisa's Talabahan (more…)

Fine Filipinas at Manggahan Festival

FEATURED, THE ROOSTER CROWS AT 4AM!
So many cute filipinas in attendance at the recent Manggahan Festival in Guimaras. Further proof for you single guys that you're truly missing out on meeting some of the most beautiful women in the world if you've never visited the Philippines.  Plenty of pretty pinays parading around at the annual provincial party. Here are some of the lovely ladies that I met.  I apologize to my faithful readers. I'm also in some of the shots.  (more…)
