Philippines Rainy Season Officially Begins

The rainy season has officially begun in the Philippines. PAGASA, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration made the announcement on Tuesday, May 30. Last year’s rainy season began six days earlier on May 24. PAGASA is the national weather bureau of the Philippines.

Lolo’s Nipa Hut in the Philippines is Completed

Lolo’s nipa hut in the Philippines is completed. It took my brother-in-law Joery and his two man crew eight weeks to complete the project at a cost of 4,000 US Dollars. I’ll have a breakdown of the construction costs in a future post.  While the building took longer than I thought it would, it occurred during Christmas week and New Year’s Day. Delays can be expected during those two major holidays in the archipelago, but we’re not on any specific time table so time is not really of any concern to me; we have a lease on our current residence, “The Farm,” until the end of October of this year.

A Return Trip to the Emergency Room in Guimaras, the Philippines: Part Two

I was sitting in the emergency room at our provincial hospital in Guimaras, where my asawa had accompanied me on a return trip to determine the severe pain I was experiencing. From past experience, I had no doubt that it was another kidney stone attack, as I had suffered one four years ago. Many people that have kidney stones have a recurrence of them within seven years unless they take preventive actions. I didn’t.  A lack of drinking water every day and excessive sweating, which I do a lot of in this tropical climate in the Philippines, surely contributed to this recent attack.
