Moving Some Prime Philippines Real Estate

Need to move some prime Philippines real estate? Well, just hire a Bayanihan crew. Actually, it's an all volunteer effort, just reward your workers with some pancit and San Miguel Pale Pilsens. Doubt that you will find this Filipino tradition in any Philippines travel brochures, but the practice is still alive and well in the provinces. In my last post, I described how I decided to join in with the crew of pinoys that helped my father-in-law to move his home 200 meters down the road from its present location. I was the first American expat to ever participate in this cultural event in this local barangay in Buluangan, a small village in Guimaras . That really didn't come as a humongous surprise to me.  Only a little over 800 residents in the entire hamlet. DSC

I Carried This House On My Back! (Along with 49 other Guys.)

Never know what new adventures await in the Philippines. After a madcap motorcycle ride to Buluangan this past Sunday to watch my father-in-law’s house get moved in an event called the Bayanihan. The term bayanihan refers to a spirit of communal unity or effort to achieve a particular objective which originated with the common Filipino tradition where family and friends volunteer to move a house to a new location. There was a flock of Filipinos¬† posted around Lolo’s home and clusters of neighbors scattered throughout waiting for the move. This was certainly going to be one of the social events of the year in this small community. DSC

Had the pleasure of again meeting the Honorable Governor of Guimaras, Felipe Hilan A. Nava, MD, who graciously allowed my asawa to take my photograph with him at the recent Mutya Ng Guimaras 2011 held at the Provincial Gymnasium this past Friday in San Miguel, Jordan municipality of Guimaras.
