New Filipina Helper Fired on First Day

New Filipina Helper Fired on First Day

FEATURED
Our new Filipina helper was fired on her first day on the job. We had previously committed to hiring a Pinay whose mother-in-law was reportedly an aswang.  But that new domestic assistant never showed up for work. ("You're fired!" graphic source: Meme Generator) (more…)

“Her Mother-in-Law is an Aswang”

FEATURED
(Aswang graphic: Travis Simmons, Author of Wyrd Fiction) We recently encountered a roadblock in our search for a new domestic helper in the Philippines. Our current 17-year-old helper is leaving tomorrow. She's pregnant. The young girl must have gotten knocked up on a Sunday, her day off,  as no one at our home in the archipelago is thankfully not responsible for the Filipina's condition.  A distant neighbor brought over a prospective new employee yesterday. But there's a problem with this lady: her mother-in-law is an aswang. (more…)

A Kapre Lives in Old Mango Tree in my Asawa’s Elementary School Yard in Guimaras

FEATURED
A  Kapre lives in an old mango tree in my asawa's elementary school in Guimaras, the island province of the Philippines we call home. According to Wikipedia, a Kapre is a Philippine mythical creature that could be characterized as a tree demon. It is described as being a tall (7 to 9 ft), dark, muscular creature. Kapres are normally described as having a strong smell that would attract human attention. After a sweaty day in the archipelago, I sometimes have a strong smell that repels human attention. (more…)
Living a Simple Life in the Philippines

Living a Simple Life in the Philippines

FEATURED
Living a simple life in the Philippines is not that difficult, especially if you reside in a rural province like my asawa and I retired to over six years ago. My wife grew up in a nipa hut with a dirt floor. The house didn't not have any modern luxuries such as electricity and running water. Here's a look at the region of Guimaras, our island province home known for the sweetest mangoes in the world, which my spouse shared with eight brothers and sisters and her two parents, along with pythons and an assortment of lizards.   My asawa's simple life included encounters with invisible elves called duwendes and evil, shape-shifting flying demons, aswangs. It made life interesting. Now my spouse of almost 16 years and I live on a 13,500 square meter property, with beautiful blue skies and

Aswang Attacks Cop Outside Our Iloilo Subdivision!

FEATURED
Heard my asawa's manicurist outside my window the other afternoon. She stopped by to give my wife the latest news in our subdivision. She  has access to the lastest breaking chiz miz, gossip, available as she makes her rounds. When my wife came inside to inform me that "Madge" (not her real name) told her that an aswang, a Filipino witch, attacked a barangay police officer right outside our subdivision, I took notice. Aswang Attack in the Philippines Revisted!

THE ROOSTER CROWS AT 4AM!
Aswang attack in the Philippines revisted.  What better time to check out a story I did last year which was a true eyewitness account of an aswang (a type of Filipino witch) that I wrote about in my first blog, "The Rooster Crows at 4am!" I've reprinted the story in my new website, PhilippinesPlus.com. Just click HERE to see part one of that story. My wife Melinda, as a young teenager, along with her family, experienced a terrifying visit from an evil Aswang, and she swears, to this day, that the encounter was real. I am not one to disagree with my wife, and she is not one prone to tell tall tales, unlike her kano husband who is prone to B.S. from time to time.

LIZARD POOP! ADVENTURES IN ILOILO
Riding an Iloilo City taxi the other day and heading home via pump boat to Guimaras, our driver, his radio tuned to a local radio station in Iloilo City, remarked to my wife in their native language, Hilgaynon, that the radio was broadcasting a news report that a witch, or aswang,  was reported in San Joaquin, a municipality of Iloilo.   (Witches, Originally uploaded by Ryan Macalandag) (more…)

The Attack of the Aswang in Guimaras!

THE ROOSTER CROWS AT 4AM!
A few blog posts ago, I promised to tell the true eyewitness account as related to me by The Sainted Patient Wife, of a witch or aswang, (Manananggal, as they are commonly called in the Western Visayans in the Philippines) that her family crossed paths with  in San Miguel, Jordan Guimaras, in the Philippines. I relate this story to you and include all the details as told to me by my wife Melinda. Nothing has been embellished in the retelling of this story.   (more…)
