“PH Immigration nabs British & American Sex Offenders” details a recent PRESS RELEASE from the Philippine Bureau of Immigration. British national 68-year-old William James Neville Ireland is now in BI custody. Ireland had hidden in the Philippines since Oct. 1, 2013 when he arrived here as a tourist.
Brit and American Captured in Back-to-Back Operations
First of all, arrested in Lubao, Pampanga was Ireland. BI’s fugitive search unit (FSU) was in charge of the raid. Ireland faces pedophile charges in the UK.
Arrested, furthermore, was 45-year-old Shane Edward Scism in Marikina City. He failed to register as a sex offender in New York.
Consequently, the Correction Law of the State of New York requires sex offenders to register any change of address. Sex offenders also have to report any changes in their internet accounts or profiles.
Issued last July 30 by the State of New York was a warrant for Scism’s arrest. Scism arrived in the Philippines on December 2017.
“He seems to have planned to relocate in the country for good in an effort to escape his liabilities in his country,” said FSU chief Bobby Raquepo.
Raquepo added that Scism’s passport is already “in the process of being revoked by the US authorities.”
Ireland’s Multiple Charges
Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente reported that Ireland is on the wanted list of the UK’s National Crime Agency. Ireland faces seven counts of indecent assault of a female.
He also faces two counts of gross indecency with a child. The charges go back to 1996.
Consequently, Ireland fled the UK to evade questioning by police.
“He was invited to appear for interview by the UK police that was scheduled on the same day he arrived in Manila,” Raquepo said.
Issued last August 5 was an Interpol red notice against Ireland. It was only then that UK authorities discovered he had fled to the Philippines.
“We will immediately deport them as their continued stay in the country poses a serious threat to our women and children. Both are undesirable aliens who must be expelled from our country without delay,” Morente said.
Morente stated that the two would also enter the BI blacklist. They will banned from reentering the Philippines.
Both are currently enjoying a comfortable stay at the BI’s luxurious detention center in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig.
