Remember “Kallee?” The 21-year-old-lady boy from Cebu City. “Kallee,” aka Carlito Alegado, admitted to stabbing to death a “Korean” tourist in Boracay last Friday, January 11th. First off all, it turns out the “Korean” was a Chinese national.
Jennifer P. Rendon did a follow-up story on this sordid incident over at The Daily Guardian. I’m a white guy from Central Illinois. I’ve been in the Philippines over nine years now. My Filipina wife thinks all white people look alike (a story for another time.) However, since she, too, is Asian, my asawa is probably better equipped to tell the difference between a Korean and a Chinese.
So I asked her. Her reply?
“The eyes,” she informed me.
The victim was identified as Shenglin Hong, 30, a Chinese national from Jilin Province. Jilin lies in the central part of northeastern China. It borders Russia and North Korea. He was staying at Paradise Garden Resort when the stabbing episode happened.
The victim was with his four siblings. All were residing at the same resort.

Police Superintendent Antonio Dizon confirmed that they filed a case against Carlito Alegado alias Kallee, 21. Kallee is a member of an LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning/queer) group on the island.
“Our investigation showed that the killing was not premeditated, thus the homicide charge,” Dizon said.
Alegado was charged Jan. 12, 2019 before the Aklan Provincial Prosecutors Office.
Reports showed that the suspect and the victim met at a resort in the island 1:00 p.m. of Thursday.
“Kallee” allegedly asked for the Chinese’s We Chat account.
“Kallee” fetched the victim and brought him to his boarding house in Sitio Ambulong.
Along with another LGBTQ pal, he claimed to have “entertained” the victim.
(I think The Crusty Old Expat doesn’t need to spell out what kind of “entertainment” was involved, do I?)
However, it wasn’t long before the foreigner learned that he was dealing with gay men. (Please, don’t make me explain how the victim found this out.)
A heated argument ensued between them as the victim refused to pay P3,000, 60 US dollars, which they earlier agreed on.
The Chinese scurried out faster than a cockroach with the lights turned on. However, “Kallee,” ran after him.
The suspect allegedly stabbed the victim three times.
The Chinese man ran. He then fell on the pavement. His body was found at the main road in front of Budget Naet at Sitio Ambulong, Barangay Manoc-Manoc around 3:05 a.m. on Jan. 11.
Alegado fled after the incident but was eventually arrested.
