Johnny Cash Spotted at Guimaras’ Manggahan Festival

This post features a plethora of photos taken at the Manggahan Festival this past April in Guimaras.  A celebration of the mango is held annually at this island province which has a total population of around 153,000. That’s not including dogs,  cats,  carabaos, cows and lizards.  Life in the province is set at Filipino Time regardless of a new law recently signed by President Aquino.

Manggahan Festival Adventures with the Tom Cat

No series of articles about the Manggahan Festival, held last April in Guimaras, the sweet mango province, would be complete without a post that featured my American expat friend, The Tom Cat, aka “Brother Tom.”  Tom, a bona fide Renaissance Man,    is dating LenLen,  one of my asawa’s countless relatives in the Philippines.

Island Hopping Off Guimaras

Visited Raymen Beach Resort,  located on Guimaras, the sweet mango province where my wife grew up, this past Mother’s Day.  We were celebrating the birthdays of two nephews, Sharwen and Jorreal.  Since my mother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alida, were in attendance, it was a perfect way to combine the birthday celebrations and also honor our Mom’s.  Island hopping tour in Guimaras

Return to the Best Philippines Beach Resort in Guimaras

Raymen Beach Resort in Guimaras. Located in a stretch of white sand and turquoise waters called  Alibihod, I’ve covered visits to this Philippines resort in past posts. Made another visit to this pocket of paradise on Mother’s Day. My asawa and relatives were accompanied by the son of Jesus, Mike (seen in the next photo closing his eyes), our neighbor that delivers our fresh drinking water.

NoyNoy and Mike on the pump boat to Guimaras

According to my asawa, Mike is our niece April’s  “suitor,” a term used about 100 years ago in America. Noy Noy, Mike’s cousin (sitting next to Mike on the pump boat), also lives next door and came along for the Sunday holiday.

Manggahan Festival Carnival in Guimaras

Carnival time at last month’s Manggahan Festival in Guimaras. Visions of  rides, games and junk food danced in the heads of our nieces and nephews.  Tita (Aunt) Daday and Tito (Uncle) Dave promised the kids plenty of fun during the annual mango mash, and they weren’t disappointed.

Pretty Pinays Parade at Manggahan Festival

Pretty pinays were on parade at the 20th Annual Manggahan Festival held in Guimaras last month.  Escorted by a posse from the Philippine National Police, PNP, I withstood the early morning heat  from my unshaded vantage point to snap the following photographs.  This American expat living in the Philippines stood out like Al-Qaeda at a bar mitzvah.
