I’ve been writing a blog for almost seven years now. Over in Guimaras, the island province we call home, there is nothing that even remotely resembles a large super mall. We do have the Chavez Building. You could call that place a strip mall if you’ve consumed too many bottles of Red Horse.
Six people dead: pump boat from Iloilo to Guimaras capsizes!
How much will it cost to build your retirement home in the Philippines? In this post I will address how much it might cost for you to build your own residence on this archipelago of 7,107 islands. But keep in mind there is absolutely no way I can predict how much it might personally cost future expats to build a new home in the PH, this post is merely drawn upon my own personal experiences and online research.
Regular readers of Philippines Plus know that I excel at doing as little as possible. I’ve perfected my slothfulness to a fine art after almost six years of living in the Philippines. But retirement in this archipelago comes with a price: notoriety. Thus, many of my stalwart subscribers, especially those that have visited or who reside in the PH, will not be surprised by the title of this post: “I’m Adored as a Rock Star by Pretty Pinays at Manggahan 2015.”
Here’s the latest progress report on our new home in the Philippines, located on the island mango province of Guimaras, in whacky Western Visayas. This is Week 16 of construction.
Here’s the latest update on building our new home in the Philippines. I’ve included some new photos to go along with this post and have added some additional information regarding our recent property dispute. We’re currently starting on Week 14 of this project. Prior to the start of construction, my brother-in-law Joery and his crew manufactured a new nipa hut on our nearly 13,000 square meter lots located on the mango island province of Guimaras. The nipa hut will serve as the new digs for my 84-year-old father-in-law who is afflicted with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Here’s the latest progress report on our new home in the Philippines on the mango island province of Guimaras in Western Visayas were we reside. Construction is going into Week Five and the following pictures were taken only a few days after the latest post regarding this enterprise. Our new house will be the dwelling for five people and covers over 3,000 square feet. It will have four bedrooms and four corresponding CR’s, Comfort Rooms, one for each bedroom which will include a guest bedroom.
Recently did some island island hopping around Guimaras, our island province home in Western Visayas, the heartland of the Philippines. After spending a pleasant day quaffing a few San Miguel Pale Pilsens with our relatives, at the Sto. Nino Island Resort, we paid an extra 500 pesos. 11 bucks, to check out some nearby islands. It costs 100 pesos, $2.25 US dollars anyway, to take the boat back to the main island, so why not avail of the complete tour package for a few extra pesos?

My asawa converted her Illinois Driver’s License to a Philippine Driver’s License about 18 months ago. My Illinois License, which I first acquired at the age of 16, had expired two years ago. I could have renewed it at the local Land Transportation Office like my spouse did, but since we only recently acquired a vehicle, felt no need to do so. In retrospect, it probably would have been smarter to renew before it did expire because once a foreign driver’s license is expired the owner of such license has to first obtain a student permit. Thus, the crusty old expat visits the Iloilo LTO and acquired said student permit.
Our Isuzu D-Max 4×2 Automatic truck is available. Well, that’s what our salesman at the Iloilo City Isuzu dealership told us. After an all day ordeal at BDO that involved transferring our funds from our Dollar Account to our Peso Account, we only had 45 minutes before the dealership closed. But first, we had one previously unplanned stop to make before we would head over to Isuzu, the local Ford dealership in Iloilo where we had an encounter with an arrogant salesman.
