New Guimaras Hypermarket Operating on “Filipino Time”

After nearly nine years of living in the Philippines, one would think I would have adjusted to “Filipino Time” by now. In some instances, I have. Nevertheless, there are occasions where this maddening Filipino custom raises my blood pressure to the upper stratosphere. Case in point, today’s post: New Guimaras Hypermarket Operating on “Filipino Time.”

28-Hour Brownout Grips Guimaras

GUIMELCO website

I apologize to my readers. While I haven’t posted on a daily basis for years, I have been wanting to opine about our local utility company, Guimelco. “28-Hour Brownout Grips Guimaras” is the latest installment of our ongoing battle with the lack of adequate infrastructure on the island province we call home.

Can I Be Buried in Our Backyard in the Philippines?

our new home in the philippines

Most of us are going to die someday. There’s not many ways to avoid it. You might consider becoming a vampire and living as an immortal (as long as you avoid direct sunlight and wooden stakes through the heart.) Or you could hang out with Shirley MacLaine and be reincarnated as a door knob. Me? I wonder. Can I be buried in our backyard in the Philippines?

Pump Boat Preacher Has Captive Audience

view from a pump boat iloilo to guimaras

In the almost eight years I’ve lived in the Philippines, I’ve made hundreds of trip from Guimaras, our island province home, to nearby Iloilo City. Since Iloilo has many more shopping options than our island home, my asawa and I have found it necessary to make the 12-15 minute trip around two to four times a month. But I’ve never experienced what I did one junket: “Pump Boat Preacher Has Captive Audience.”

Collecting Cow Poop in the Philippines on Valentine’s Day

cow poop in the philippines

I seriously doubt that many of my readers were collecting cow poop in the Philippines on Valentine’s Day. I wonder how many people all across America were doing the same. Perhaps some couples were celebrating Cupid’s Day by waiting in line for an hour (or more) at their neighborhood Olive Garden or Outback restaurant, stomachs growling, perhaps wishing they were alongside Captain Tom picking up poop. Then again, maybe not.

Taking Another Walk on the Wild Side of the Philippines

a view from guimaras

My Sainted Patient Wife and I were taking another walk on the wild side of the Philippines. I’ve been exceptionally lazy recently and haven’t even  been taking my daily walks. But after diplomatic suggestions from my asawa, I decided it would be in my best interests to resume this exercise routine.
