“Boracay, Cebu, Palawan: World’s Best Islands.” This trio of Southeast Asian gems nabbed the Top Three Spots on a recent survey. That’s according to Condé Nast Traveler readers who ranked the 30 best islands in the world outside the U.S. in their 2017 Readers’ Choice Awards survey. That’s impressive!
“10 Best Places to Visit in the Philippines” consists of the results of over 30 websites that I scrutinized using four different search engines. The compilation of this Top Ten List looked at other websites and their choices for the best places to visit in the archipelago. More weight was given for picks that finished first, second and third. Each destination listed was given at least one vote. Only the Top Ten picks of each website were given consideration. The websites I covered were everything from CNN to USA Today along with international and local publications.
I’ve been writing a blog for almost seven years now. Over in Guimaras, the island province we call home, there is nothing that even remotely resembles a large super mall. We do have the Chavez Building. You could call that place a strip mall if you’ve consumed too many bottles of Red Horse.
After a recent event in “The Queen City of the South,” my wife and I have to wonder: “Was Our Niece a Target of Kidnappers in Cebu?”
I was quite surprised to see such a large presence for RC, Royal Crown Cola, when we were visiting U.S. friends in Cebu recently. Coke products and Coke-sponsored signs for local businesses is the norm in nearby Iloilo and Guimaras, the island province we call home. When I saw so many local sari sari stores advertising the popular soft drinks that I used to consume back in Central Illinois, a wave of nostalgia passed over me.
My asawa and I toured beautiful, bewitching Bohol the other week visiting the famous Chocolate Hills and other local tourist sites such as the Loboc River. It was a whirlwind one day tour that originated from the SuperCat Ferry Terminal in Cebu City which took us to the port of Tagbilaran in Bohol.
My asawa and I recently visited the “Queen City of the South” and visited the new SM Seaside Cebu. It was an amazing adventure in shopping. This Super Mall, the 3rd largest mall in the Philippines and 8th largest in the world, opened last November. Though all the retail outlets are not open yet, over 250 out of 447 stores are in operation, making it a tourist destination I highly recommend.
What is the best way to get to Cebu from Iloilo City? There are several options available to travelers such as taking a flight on local airlines, boarding a bus, or taking a vessel from a shipping line. Travel to Cebu City, “The Queen City of the South” depends on your budget and how much travel time you have available.
I haven’t done much of anything since retiring to the Philippines over six years ago with my lovely asawa, The Sainted Patient Wife. I’ve been on a perpetual vacation for years but my hardworking spouse never takes a break. That’s why I decided she deserved some adventures in Cebu City, like shopping at the new SM Seaside Mall, the fourth largest SM in the Philippines. My wife also expressed a desire to visit the Chocolate Hills in Bohol, someplace neither one of us has been.
