We recently entertained a gaggle of Manila relatives who visited us at our new home in the Philippines and hit beach resorts in Guimaras, our island province home, and Boracay. Sister Emily and husband Joe, along with their six children celebrated Holy Week with us.
Don’t rely on Google Maps for directions in Iloilo City. We wasted an hour the other morning in Iloilo looking for a company that provided swimming pool equipment. My asawa and I were shopping in the big city and decided to look for Amici Water Systems Sales and Services, Iloilo. Our crew had begun digging our new swimming pool in the Philippines and Amici was listed as a place to purchase pool supplies.
Guimaras, the island province we call home, is lousy with beach resorts and other tourist attractions. Do I recommend Neptune Pittman’s Garden Resort? Yes. And, no.
The “Manila Mob” recently stormed through the island province of Guimaras, home of the Manggahan Festival, and the sweetest mangoes found in the Philippines.
Congratulations to Boracay Island which has been named the world's best island destination for 2012 by Travel+Leisure magazine. The magazine polled its readers, and they gave Boracay, known for it's powdery white-sand beaches, a score of 93.10. Last year the island ranked No. 4 in the same survey. Palawan. One of the most beautiful beach resorts in the Philippines. Our niece, Luz Maria, seen in the next photo with my own pretty pinay, my asawa, lives there and visited Iloilo the other day. We didn't know she was arriving on Panay Island, where we live, but the cute Filipina was in nearby Antique Province visiting a friend , and met us a week ago Saturday at Langfords behind SM City.
Went to SM Hypermarket in Iloilo City to do our big grocery shopping for the month this past Sunday. Since we were loaded down with about a dozen bags of groceries and our new television set (more on that in a later post), we used a taxi to go home. 300 pesos (about seven US Dollars) for the ride, off meter, we live quite a distance from the store, but a reasonable rate. We needed a larger cab, so we took GDR, which are bigger taxis with good air con usually .
Boracay Philippines. Puerto Galera. Guimaras. Just some of the better known Philippines resorts. Visited Cabaling Beach this past Sunday to celebrate the birthdays of my asawa, now 47, her sister Alida, 33, and Joery, her husband, 39. The sky was overcast most of the day, but our nieces and nephews were enjoying swimming and playing on the beach as I waited for the rest of the party to return from visiting my wife's traveling manicurist who lived nearby. Had eaten a breakfast of spaghetti and fried chicken at our rented nipa hut on the edge of a jungle, but was getting hungry for some of those butterfly pork chops I had purchased at SM City Supermarket in Iloilo. Plus, Cousin Emma and her crew were bringing the San Miguel beverages, but they hadn't arrived yet.
