“Philippine Peso Hits Near 12-Year Low” is good news for expats who convert their US Dollars to the Philippine Peso. The Manila Times reports that the peso weakened to a near 12-year low anew on Thursday. One bank analyst attributed the peso’s decline to a central bank decision to cut bank reserve requirements.
I couldn’t dance my way out of a rice sack riddled with holes. “Lively Latin Dancers, Manggahan Festival Guimaras” is a post that solely exists because of The Sainted Patient Wife. My better half loves to dance. She’s especially fond of Latin dances, the Cha Cha, Rumba, Samba, and Paso Doble. Those routines and more were on display last Thursday evening at the 2018 Manggahan Festival in Guimaras.
“Philippines: American shot dead after refusing to buy beer.” This headline jutted out to me in The Daily Guardian this morning. As I sipped my steaming hot cup of Good Day White Frappe, I quickly perused this tragic story which could happen to any American, or other foreigners, living in the Philippines.
OK, it’s not the most original title, but Guimaras’ “Manggahan Festival 2018 going to the Dogs” best describes yesterday’s premier late afternoon event. It’s the eighth celebration of the sweetest mangoes in the world that The Sainted Patient Wife and I have attended. This is the first pooch program we’ve gone to.
A recent article in The Manila Standard slightly amused me. The bulletin purported that mobile Internet download speed in the Philippines had improved last April 20118. The Crusty Old Expat, always the skeptic, decided to do his own independent study. The results? Guimaras Globe Internet Speeds Still Suck. (Graphic Source: pinoyhacknews.com)
Celebrating the Silver Glory of the Manggahan Festival in Guimaras were “The Kano” and “The Sainted Patient Wife.” “Manggahan Festival 2018 Street Dancers Sizzle” was a delightful treasure to behold. While my wife is the resident disco dancer in our family, I do not have any rhythm whatsoever. I’m a white guy. White guys can’t jump and white guys can’t dance.
It’s the 25th Silver Anniversary of the Manggahan Festival in Guimaras, the island province we call home. Manggahan is the annual celebration of the mango. Guimaras Mangoes are the sweetest in the world and known for its sweet-sour taste. Frankly, if any province in the Philippines, claims to have sweeter tasting mangoes, they have been consuming way too many bottles of Red Horse Beer. “Manggahan 2018 Sizzles! Street Dance Competition” is the first in a series of posts that deal with my adventures in this year’s Mango Land celebration.
It’s been over eight years since I first published a photo of the old “Compound Crew” back in my first blog, “The Rooster Crows at 4 am!” There’s been a mountain of changes since that first picture was published.
Always on the lookout for new culinary adventures, tipped off by fellow foreigners on our tiny island province, we checked out a new eatery. “Exciting New Guimaras Café Conchita Shows Promise.”
