Miss Philippines Earth 2011 Swimsuit Candidates
In the interest of promoting a more beautiful planet, today's YouTube video will feature candidates from the Miss Philippines Earth-2011 beauty pageant in swimsuit attire. Why swimsuit attire you might ask? Isn't that a bit sexist, Dave? Well, excuse me for trying to be more environmentally conscious? Don't swimsuits require less material to make and thus less materials used means less impact on the environment, right? However, I guess such reasoning would eventually lead to the conclusion that wearing no clothes at all would help our planet even more since, again, no clothes means less manufacturing and thus less factories polluting the earth. Please, I absolutely am NOT advocating that! Lord knows some people should NEVER be seen in public naked, let alone with all the lights out. Myself included.
Here's the link to the photo from Yahoo! Philippines OMG! Candidates were posing for photographers during a press presentation held in Pasay City, April 26, 2011.

Hi Dave: I found the video fascinating as the language accents from the different areas of the Philippines can be heard. They are speaking in English, but in a sing-song way. Our family lawyers told me several times that I speak “Slang English”. I’m quiet in the wet market and let the helpers do the talking. My parents warned me a long time ago that we could be charged higher prices if they hear me speak as I would indicate “American” and would be willing to pay for the higher prices. I would definitely learned to speak the native dialects before shopping by myself in the local markets.
Hi Roselyn. I just love the sing-song English. And I am told I speak that “Slang English,”too. You will absolutely be charged higher prices because of that. We let my Filipino brother-in-law do our shopping at the local wet market for us. He always negotiates a better deal. To many people, I am the “rich” American. Little do they know.
After watching that I definitely appreciate the Earth more, at least the earthly creatures.
Thank God for beautiful earthly creatures, Tony!
I watch the video and I have no idea what they said
but they look goooood !!!

Hi Dave,
As I begin to write this, I can already sense the eye-rolling and groans it may cause…ah, well, here goes anyway
First off- very cool video. Gotta Love a going-green presentation accompanied by girls in swimsuits (Girls Gone Green?). What I noticed, though (despite some very attractive girls), is that many of the women seemed to be already approaching “chubby” status- at least by swimsuit standards (pause here for eye-rolling and groan #1).
At such a young age, it’s a bit alarming, and it’s not uncommon- both in the Phils and the U.S. It got me thinking about why. Is it a dietary thing, a lack of excercise, or a combination of both? Not to nit pick- but if you’re presenting on environmental factors that could benefit society and the world, you’d think you’d be health conscious as well. My wife, also a Filipina, despite knowing the benefits of a healthy diet and excercise, will not divert from her Filipino regimen. She eats 3x the suggested portion of rice, cooks everything in oil (usually 14 Grams of fat per TBS), and thinks that 20 minutes on the treadmill once a month will suffice for excercise. And if you’re a lechon, you’d better hope there’s sufficient cover to hide behind if my wife sees you
Anyway (as I’m coming down from my pulpit), here’s a little something for the reader’s to er, um, digest: If we cut back on our meat consumption by 10%(sorry Jollibee), and use that grazing land to grow vegetables instead of livestock, we could end world hunger- as well as have a healthier diet, reduce methane gas, save more trees, and be able to watch videos of girls with better tummies (Eye roll/Groan 2?).
In any case, thanks for listening to my lengthy, albeit informative, rant.
Dan
Hmmm, Dan, very informative and entertaining discourse. I can assure you that I did not roll my eyes at all. As far as the situation in the Philippines goes, I believe (and my asawa told me this, so it has to be true) that there are more and more obese or somewhat chubby Filipinos of all ages because a lot of those Filipinos with ample bellies (I would say “guts” but I am trying to be more politically correct) have family members working as OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers) and some, not all, mind you, are content to eat all the junk food and other unhealthy stuff they can now afford thanks to those remittances being sent from overseas.
Our family members at “The Compound,” myself excluded, also eat 3x the amount of recommended rice and also find it necessary to cook everything in oil. However, my asawa, who has bemoaning the fact that she has gained a few pounds (along with me) has been joining me at 5:00 am for our hour long walks around our Provincial Capitol. I started this regime about two weeks ago, and the wife wanted to participate. Sure, I said. So I wake her up, she has a cup of coffee, and off we go. I feel better already after two weeks.
I am cutting down on my meat consumption as you suggested. Now if I just cut down on my San Miguel consumption, I’d be OK. Thanks for the great comment.
Hi Dave,
Good for you and your wife! I can certainly relate to the junk food scenario as I constantly come across my wife’s junk food hiding spots.
I find it amusing that when we talk about a better diet her rebuttle is something along the lines of, “Even so and so said I’m too skinny”. Mind you, so and so is usually someone of disproportionate size…and when I say that, I mean a human Caribou. Granted, my wife is not overweight- she’s 5’3 and 104 pounds, and quite attractive. So, I explain that it’s about what’s on the inside more than the outside, and heart disease is all too prevelant. Besides, if a Whale told a Walrus that it’s too skinny- does that make the Walrus skinny or just less fat? How do you avoid looking like a Walrus- don’t eat like one. Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder- but if you can’t behold your feet because your stomach is in the way, well, it’s time for a change in diet
Just my 2
Dan
Dan, you are a brave man to even broach the subject of a diet with your asawa. Reminds me of a “Shoebox” greeting card that had a picture of a male dinosaur saying to a female dinosaur in a dress ” That dress makes you look fat.” The caption underneath it read’ “The reason dinosaurs are extinct.”
Good luck, however, on trying to get your wife to eat healthier. At 5′ 3″ and 104 pounds your wife is certainly not overweight, but kudos to you for being such a caring husband.
